Younger Players

Harnessing their natural ability

Children are instinctive learners - they can watch an expert, observing them closely, then go away and reproduce almost exactly what that person did. I've seen countless under-fives with the most fabulous golf swings.

Yet some coaches choose to completely deconstruct the child's technique because that's the only way they know how to teach. Then the parent comes along to give them constant feedback, which may or may not include praise. Children are bombarded with things they should and shouldn't think about on the green, in the rough, when they are tee-ing up - all over-shadowing their instinctive game.

If this country is ever going to produce a Tiger Woods, what children are taught and the way they are taught needs to change. My Young Players Workshops embrace the way that children learn, showing them how they can use to best effect their natural way of learning. We consider what it means to be 'in the zone' and how they can re-create that any time they choose - on the course, at home, at school.

Learning strategies for any age

"There are ways of learning that are more effective than others. There are ways of practicing that will have a greater effect than others. There are ways of using your memory which means that learning is embedded and more accessible. Such strategies, the strategies I use and teach, provide a far greater opportunity for improvements to be more powerful and longer-lasting."
